Pepper Construction
Pepper Construction is a one billion dollar Chicago-based construction
firm with subsidiary sites in Houston and Indianapolis. Through
a collaborative process with over 30 peoples from the executive
and management teams, SFT consultants facilitated a five month strategic
planning exercise for corporate headquarters and the individual
subsidiaries. One of the outcomes was expansion into new geographic
regions and industry sectors by building on their core competency:
relationship and alliance building. SFT consultants continue to
be involved with Pepper Construction Indiana as they look at new
business development and emerging markets.
Center for Agricultural Business, Purdue University
The Center of Agricultural Business is the executive education arm
of Purdue University School of Agriculture. Through executive programs
with such companies as Syngenta, CSM, McDonald’s, and American
Seed Trade Association, our consultants have delivered programs
on strategy, organization change, and innovation including the development
of a unique eco-system map for the agribusiness sector. Participants
include executives from such US companies as John Deere, Pioneer,
Continental Beef, and Mapleleaf Farms. Additionally, our consultants
have been part of the EMBA program on international strategy which
involves teaching in the Netherlands. This program includes internet-based
course delivery as well as site visits to a variety of organizations
to explore strategy issues. Corporate site visits included Neutraco;
Royal Lemkes; and Frankort & Koning.
Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN)
and the Provider Community,
South Bend, Indiana
MHIN is one of the original health information networks in the country
starting in the late 1990s. The SFT consulting team helped the physician
community and other healthcare stakeholders develop a second stage
plan to expand the information network to all providers and to create
a physician migration plan to achieve a 90% electronic adoption
rate by practices within 3 years. The initiative includes the 550
physician community, both of the hospital systems, the major laboratory,
and the Michiana Health Information Network. This community is unique
because of the role physician leadership played in obtaining commitment
to implementing the plan by all parties including most of the entire
physician community.
Healthy Communities Network: Quality of Life
Initiative
The Healthy Communities Network is an alliance between leading organizations
in Central Indiana including, among others, Marion County Health
Department, City of Indianapolis, Indiana University Purdue University
Indianapolis (IUPUI), and the Healthy Communities Foundation to
develop an internet-based community quality of life management system
called the Healthy Communities Network. Topic areas include health,
public safety, transportation, economy, government and politics,
arts and recreation, natural environment, education and social environment.
The network targets community managers of quality of life concerns,
professionals, and the general public by enhancing their ability
to become aware of, and track, quality of life indicators and to
easily access useful information from multiple data sources. SFT
consultants are overseeing the early stage development of the initiative
to build broad-based support for the project among community leaders
across topic areas; establish the business case and plan; and recruit
a host, sponsors, and funders.
Consortium for Creative Aging and Retirement
(CCAR)
CCAR is a collaboration of 18+ cultural, educational, recreational,
health, and senior serving organizations focused on initiating a
community-wide life enrichment information network in Central Indiana
for seniors called Indy Creative Aging. The goal is to link seniors
in Central Indiana to cultural and enrichment opportunities of interest.
SFT consultants helped launch the collaboration to develop a business
plan using a facilitated group planning process. Network plans are
to phase-in an on-line magazine, print magazine, information lines,
and resource centers. Key issues include planning for the changing
ways that current and future generations of seniors communicate
(increase in Internet usage; young vs. old seniors) and developing
appropriate services and marketing strategies.
Domestic Violence Network of Greater Indianapolis
The Domestic Violence Network (DVN) is a convener organization for
entities involved in domestic violence as service providers or resources. SFT consultants
helped the DVN to design and facilitate a large group planning process
with 60+ representatives of the domestic violence stakeholder community
to develop a plan for Central Indiana. The plan addresses barriers
to reducing domestic violence and improving services to victims
of abuse. Stakeholder representation included service providers,
advocacy groups, universities, faith community, minority representatives,
health care, mayor’s office, police, and judicial systems,
among others. Key elements of the plan included: navigation of the
system/coordination of response; emergency bed space plan, research
and evaluation, PR campaign, public policy, and cultural competency.
BehaviorCorp
BehaviorCorp is a community mental health center in a rapidly changing
environment of diminishing and changing funding sources and a growing
population in need of services. SFT consultants facilitated a major
strategic planning process involving the Board of Directors, management,
staff and key community leaders. The process also included participation
by national experts in clinical care, funding, and health plans.
The purpose of the participative process was to ready the organization
for an environment of alliance building across organizations and
a redesign of clinical services. This planning process eventually
led to BehaviorCorp’s participation in InteCare, a collaboration
of four community mental health centers, and to a redesign of care
delivery. It also led to the organization-wide adoption of EMRs
for clinical care, billing services, and utilization review.
The following is a selected list of half to two day
meetings that were stand alone events or a part of a larger planning
process. SFT worked with the organization’s leadership to
create the kind of event that would catalyze visionary change and
build enthusiasm, yet was grounded in solid analysis.
Indiana Humanities Council Leadership Kick-off
SFT facilitated a state-wide planning process among community leaders,
board and staff to expand the vision, reach and scope of IHC. The
kick-off to the planning was an all day community meeting of approximately
50 state-wide leaders. The intent was to involve a broad group of
people around leadership, educational and cultural issues in Indiana
to catalyze a change in direction for the IHC. This event was the
forerunner to the annual Leadership Summits.
Healthcare Visioning with Physician Leaders
SFT facilitated a planning session with approximately 50 leaders
from physician practices to identify “what it would take to
make healthcare so attractive in Central Indiana that people would
move to this location for its healthcare”. The event served
as the forerunner to ICareConnect, Inc., a community-based health
information exchange.
MAGIC Regional Summit
MAGIC was organized by business leaders to assist community leaders
in Marion and the surrounding counties to accelerate planning on
a regional rather than city or county basis. SFT consultants worked
with MAGIC leadership in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area to plan
the Economic Development Roundtable for over 2000 participants.
The purpose of the Summit was to educate participants about key
community topics from a regional perspective such as transportation,
economic development, marketing of the region, and land use and
to obtain feedback on potential options. SFT’s role was to
develop and coordinate the program for the discussion groups and
to use a real-time polling process for approximately 200 discussion
tables.
Conner Prairie Museum Strategic Planning Kick-off
Conner Prairie is a nationally recognized living museum that was
interested in reevaluating its direction in light of the creative
changes that are occurring in museums across the country. They asked
SFT consultants to help them design a participative planning process
that would open the doors to new opportunities. SFT developed and
facilitated a series of visioning sessions with the board, management,
staff and community representatives to envision an alternative future
for the museum. Meetings included experts from successful museums
around the nation. These meetings were the kick-off to a strategic
planning process with the management and staff. SFT also facilitated
post-planning focus groups to obtain grassroots and community leader
buy-in to the plan.
Medi-Span, Inc. Trends Analysis Session
Medi-Span provides fully integrated electronic drug data and clinical
information to healthcare professionals. During the 1990’s,
Medi-Span recognized that growth in their services was shifting
from retail pharmacies to mail order pharmacies and physicians.
SFT consultants facilitated the executive team planning process
to develop a response to these changes. To prepare for planning,
the SFT team helped organize and facilitate a one-day Trends Analysis
Session. Participants included management staff from Medi-Span and
national leaders from different sectors of the healthcare industry.
The purpose was to discuss trends in healthcare and the impact on
electronic prescribing and claims processing. Representatives from
physician practices, health systems, PBMs, health plans, retail
pharmacies, and drug companies participated. |
