Denise
is a principal consultant with Strategies for Tomorrow. She is an
accomplished healthcare IT professional with more than 30 years
of progressive multi-disciplinary healthcare management and consulting
experience in a variety of healthcare information system settings.
Denise has taken this experience and applied it to the formation
and growth of health information exchanges (HIEs). She has worked
with health information exchanges in the areas of business requirements
development, interim Chief Information Officer, and evaluation and
selection of technology partners.
Her other professional accomplishments encompass executive education,
information system and health information exchange strategic and
operational plan development, information systems department assessment
and restructuring, contract negotiations, project management and
system implementation. Denise has also developed effective sales
strategies resulting in consistent opportunity closures and corresponding
revenue growth and was an authorized negotiator and primary administrative
point of contact for all GSA (federal government) related business.
In her recent role as the interim Chief Information Officer for
a state designated Health Information Exchange (HIE,) she has assisted
with all strategic and tactical information strategies and projects.
She has assisted state-wide HIEs in the development of their HITECH
Act grant applications for HIE and Regional Extension Center funding
and Request for Proposal processes for technology vendors.
Denise has served as the Managing Principal for a regionally based
health information technology consulting company. She also served
as a Regional Vice President for ACS Healthcare Solutions where
she was responsible for business development and client delivery
across 3 states, Washington DC and the Federal Government. While
with ACS Healthcare Solutions she held several interim CIO positions,
where she managed numerous large IT implementation projects, negotiated
multiple contracts, managed all vendor relationships, and had primary
responsibility for IT strategic plans and tactical operations.
Prior to her consulting career, she held the positions of Chief
Information Officer at several healthcare systems. During her tenure,
she directed numerous strategic and tactical IT initiatives including
a major clinical systems selection.
Denise’s education includes a Master of Business with a concentration
in Finance from Temple University, and Bachelor of Science in Health
Planning and Administration from the Pennsylvania State University.
Denise recently completed a course on grant writing.
She is a Senior Member in the Healthcare Information Systems and
Management Society (HIMSS), President for the Maryland HIMSS chapter,
past Chairperson for the Maryland HIMSS Chapter Program Planning
Committee and a member in the American College of Healthcare Executives
(ACHE). She is currently serving as a member of the Maryland Health
Care Commission’s Advisory Panel on Regional Extension Center
accreditation criteria. She has also served as the Maryland HIMSS
RHIO Roundtable Liaison, on the task force of the National HIMSS
RHIO Best Practices, and the Maryland Health Care Commission’s
Task Force on Service Area Health Information Exchange. Denise has
presented at local and national HIMSS events.
