Raul E. Zavaleta

With over 20 years of entrepreneurial experience in healthcare enterprises and information technology, Raul combines business thinking, IT know-how, and real world experience to help organizations launch and expand health information exchanges (HIEs).

As a Principal with Strategies for Tomorrow, Inc. Raul has actively participated in business planning initiatives in the Midwest and east coast including, among others, Michiana Health Information Network in South Bend, Indiana and the Capital Area RHIO in Lansing, Michigan. He has been instrumental in helping communities to develop stakeholder value propositions and return on investment analyses and to create financially sustainable business models. He is forward thinking in how HIEs can achieve financial sustainability at start-up and long-term. He has a particular interest in the long-term role of community-level and state-level HIEs as infomediaries.

Raul has founded several technology-based healthcare companies and helped them grow to mature successful entities. He also has mentored several other technology-based companies advising them on business models, marketing strategies, financial structures, and management compositions. His roles in these companies, located both in the United States and Europe, include President, CIO, and VP of New Business Development.

Prior to starting his entrepreneurial career, he worked for Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California, Dow Chemical, American Hospital Supply, and SmithKline Beecham Laboratories. He actively participates in economic and community development activities in Indianapolis, Indiana, in his roles on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Health Industry Forum, Marion College, and the United Way of Central Indiana. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA.
